We were very fortunate to receive some wonderful funding from the Sutton Soup event held in October of last year. Myself and volunteer baker Abi made the pitch and chatted to the 'Soup Dragons' about Free Cakes for Kids and what it means to us and to the families that we help. The much needed injection of funds has allowed us to provide all bakers with a board and a box to show off their creations. Also we now send a party pack to each family with candles, balloons and party blowers to help make the birthday celebrations even more special.
Abi and I returned to the recent Sutton Soup held in January to report back on how we are using the funds. As a thank you we brought along cakes to share with everyone, including an impressive 'Sutton Soup' Cake baked by Abi. Of course events like these are also a great way to spread the word about Free Cakes for Kids Sutton and to do a bit of networking. Another big bonus is the chance to get a few more volunteers to help with the group. Two new volunteers have already baked for local families and new volunteer Cerryn has given me some much needed advice on improving this website. Its very much a work in progress, but I think its looking better all ready. The next Sutton Soup is on 27th April and I shall be there to listen to another four local projects pitch for funds. Fancy coming along, then check out the Sutton Soup website for more details.

AuthorI'm Lynne O'Brien, Free Cakes for Kids Sutton organiser. I'm a keen home baker who wants to use my baking skills to make birthdays special for families who can't provide a cake for their child. This is all far more fun than my previous careers as a research scientist and a data manager! Archives
